AHMAD

Technique: Acrylic and print on paper

Size: 99cm x 150cm

Ahmad is 27 years old and comes from Mazar-i Sharif, the fourth largest city in Afghanistan. I met him in 2016 on the island of Lesbos (Greece) while I was exploring the European borders during my project “Waves of the heroes”. We spent the day talking in the shades of a truck, a few kilometers from the Moria refugee camp where he used to live with his family.

Ahmad is married and has two little children. In his first life, Ahmad was a police officer. To cross the Aegean sea that separates the Turkish coast and the Greek coast (5km), Ahmad had to pay smugglers, thousand per child and 2000€ per adult. 6000€, this is the price for “peace” and “freedom”.
